ACBSP 2016 Recap & Highlights

Nearly 900 business faculty, deans, chairs, and presidents from colleges and universities around the world traveled to Atlanta, Georgia this past June for ACBSP Conference 2016. This was the first ACBSP conference for many attendees, along with some of the ACBSP staff. “My first conference kept me very busy! I was in the unique position of not only being a new employee but also the new conference planner. I truly enjoyed seeing it all come together, “ said Danielle Henderson, ACBSP’s new Conference and Meeting Services Coordinator.

The first Andy C. Saucedo Memorial Scholarship Award was presented to Adriana Garcia on Friday, June 17, 2016. Saucedo was honored during the luncheon with a video presentation, which reflected on the impact he had on friends and colleagues at ACBSP. So far, $16,000 has been pledged for the scholarship fund created to honor Andy’s legacy. To make a donation, contact the home office by emailing info@acbsp.org.

Creating New Knowledge in the Classroom

The conference theme was Creating New Knowledge in the Classroom.

“Not only is our conference a great way for colleagues from all over the world to come together to network and learn, but it also allows them to continuously improve and become more effective leaders in business education. The conference theme track is just one example of the many trending topics in the industry and ACBSP is leading the way,” said Henderson.

Aside from the conference theme track, attendees had the option to attend sessions from the Teaching Excellence and Accreditation tracks, as well as a special focus track called Going Beyond Accreditation.

Exploring the Key to Greater Returns

The Keynote Luncheon, sponsored by Cengage Learning, featured Teaching TuneUP’s Co-founder, Damon Givehand. Givehand’s presentation on “Happiness: The Fuel & Fire That Lights the Way to Greater Returns” discussed the impact happiness has on the ability to bring forth greater returns for not only the business world, but also the classroom. Look for the follow-up article on the presentation, coming soon.

All About Assessing Quality

Because of the increase in demand, there were two Mentor & Evaluator Training workshops and both sold out. Additionally, there were numerous accreditation sessions

that examined best practices and explanations of standards & criteria. The conference schedule provided multiple opportunities to explore the accreditation process more fully, including one-on-one sessions with commissioners and self-study review appointments.

A Time for Celebration

ACBSP Conference 2016 was also a time to celebrate the accomplishments of our Teaching Excellence Award recipients, Best of Regions Presentations, Student Showcase Award winners, and the 52 colleges and universities achieving initial or reaffirmation of accreditation in 2015-16.

ACBSP welcomed the addition of five new accredited schools representing the first institution in their country to achieve ACBSP accreditation in Afghanistan, Bangladesh,

Ghana, Curacao and Vietnam. We look forward to expanding our global footprint in the years to come.
